Barisal

Flash flood caused by heavy downpour hit at least 50 villages in Barisal while tidal water flooded five villages in Patuakhali in the last two days.

The flash flood in Barisal followed continuous downpour and onrush of water from upstream, reports UNB.
The district relief and rehabilitation office said, at least 50 villages and shoals of five upazilas of the district went under water.
A large number of people in the affected areas of Mehendiganj, Hizla, Muladi, Wazirpur and Agoiljhara have taken shelter on high land and in educational institutions, upazila administration sources said.
In Patuakhali, at least five villages under Aila-hit Mirzaganj upazila were inundated as the flood control embankment on the Payra river collapsed at different points during high tide on Monday and Tuesday.
The tidal water rose above the normal level, reports our correspondent.

Bagerhat

The 5-kilometer Bagerhat town protection embankment, built over 6 years ago at a cost of Tk 6.40 crore on the bank of Bhairab River is threatened by tide.
Twentyeight sluice gates of the embankment, which became inoperative a couple of years ago, cannot hold back the river water which is rolling down on Bagerhat and Mongla towns overflowing the dam causing havoc.

Khulna


Flood situation worsened in Satkhira and Khula with a minor drowning in Digholia upazila in Khulna, several hundred villages going under water in the two districts rendering several lakh marooned on Tuesday, reports UNB.
A cross dam caved in at several points at Madhabpur in Digholia opening up the floodgate rendering several dozen families who lived in the area homeless.Takina Begum, 2, daughter of Mikail Fakir of Madhabpur drowned as tide carried away her along with their thatched house as soon as the dam crumpled in the morning.Rain-fed rivers swelled abnormally overflowing their banks inundating scores of villages damaging roads, houses planted crops, fish enclosures and seed-beds in the last four days ending 6pm Tuesday.

Satkhira

Satkhira Sadar Upazila (satkhira district) with an area of 400.82 sq km, is bounded by kalaroa upazila on the north, debhata and assasuni upazilas on the south, tala upazila on the east and west bengal of India on the west. Main rivers are ichamati, Betua, Labangabati, and Kholpatua; Pansayar canal and Dadbhanga Beel are notable.
